President of the Republic receives congratulations on the occasion of the Independence Day

Many congratulations to President Lennart Meri on the occasion of the Estonian Independence Day have arrived at the Office of the President of the Republic. The good wishes from the Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, who also made a call today to forward her personal congratulations, have reached Kadriorg.

A telegram came from John Paul II the Pope of Rome, and the good wishes of the US President William J. Clinton, as well as the French President Jacques Chirac, Her Majesty Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark, Albert, King of Belgium, the German President Johannes Rau, Adrienne Clarkson, the Governor General of Canada, Sir William Deane, the Governor General of Australia, the Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski, the Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo, the the Irish President Mary McAleese, Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands, the Austrian President Thomas Klestil, the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, the President of the Philippines Joseph Ejercito Estrada, the Bulgarian President Petar Stojanov, Vaclav Havel, the President of the Czech Republic, Chandrika Bandaranike Kumaratunga, the Persident of Sri Lanka, the Turkish President Süleyman Demirel, the President of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Boris Trajkovski, Kicheril Raman Narayanan, the President of India, Jorge Sampaio, the President of Portugal, Alberto Fujimori, the President of Peru, Clafcos Clerides, the President of Cyprus, Jiang Zemin, the President of China, and the Government of Brazil, have arrived at Kadriorg.

Also Muhammad Rafiq Tarar, the President of Pakistan, and Ezer Weizman, the President of Israel, and Hafez Al-Assad, the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, and Hamad Bin Essa Al-Khalifa, the Emir of Bahrain, have congratulated Estonia on the occasion of our national day.

Also the Russian Drama Theatre and the Vocational Training Centre of Võru County have sent their congratulations.
