President of the Republic visited the Viru County today

President Lennart Meri started a tour of Eastern Viru County from Tartu today. He visited the rural municipalities of Vaivara and Toila, and the city of Kohtla-Järve.

The President continued the discussion he had begun on October 20 this year with Ülo Jõgisoo, Head of the Vaivara Rural Municipality, and Vello Kärten, Chairman of the Vaivara Rural Municipality Council, concerning the possibilities of implementing the Young Family Home project. President Meri and Academician Erast Parmasto, who accompanied him, today visited also Mummassaare, Ridaküla and Meriküla.

The President also met Bruno Uustal, Head of the Toila rural municipality. Rein Aidma, the Governor of Eastern Viru County, offered lunch to the President and Academician Parmasto. At lunch, the possibilities of the Young Family Home Project in North-East Estonia were discussed.

At Kohtla-Järve, the President visited Anastassia Zabrodskaya, whose essay was the first to arrive for the essay competition declared by the President of the Republic on Mother's Day 1997.
