President of the Republic opened the new building of Tallinn airport
10.12.1999

President Lennart Meri this evening opened the renovated building of Tallinn Airport. As the President said, the building is functional and well built. The President said that he hoped the airport would soon have use for all its improved capacity.

On the opening ceremony, the President reminded the audience that the airport had been built for a loan, and that the loan would have to be paid back. As the President said, transit is one of the possibilities to enlarge Estonia's economic background, and transit is based on the trust for the Estonian accuracy and efficiency. He added that it is especially important for the airport personnel to know that with their friendly greetings and smiles to the customers, they can help to pay back the loan, as an airport is doing well only when people wish to come there.

Tallinn airport is the gate to Tallinn, not just a station. '"The key to the gate through which Estonia, with her head held high and I hope also with pride, will enter the European Union, is also in your hands,'" President Lennart Meri said in Tallinn Airport today.
