The First Christmas Cards to the President of the Republic have arrived

President Lennart Meri has for today received nearly a hundred Christmas cards at Kadriorg. The cards from Tony Blair, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Mary Robinson, the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, were the first to reach Kadriorg. Also the Christmas greetings from Bill Clinton, the President of the United States of America, Kiro Gligorov, the Macedonian President who is soon to leave office, the Icelandic President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, the Chinese President Jiang Zemin, and Saad Alabdullah Alsalim Alsabahi, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kuwait, have arrived at Kadriorg. Cards have also arrived from the Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen, the Czech Ambassador Radek Pech, The Ambassador of the Russian Federation Aleksey Glukhov, the Australian Ambassador Stephen Brady, the British Ambassador Timothy Craddock, the Polish Ambassador Jakub Wolasiewicz, the Hungarian Ambassador Béla Javorszky, and many other distinguished politicians, and from the President's many supporters and friends. Many Estonian families, schools, businessmen, politicians and public servants have wished Merry Christmas to the President.

This year, President of the Republic is sending out nearly one and a half thousand Christmas cards both to Estonia and abroad. This year, the President's card depicts part of the altar painting by Hermen Rode from 1481 in the St. Nicholas Church in Tallinn, with the small coat of arms of Tallinn, photographed by Ann Tenno.
