President Meri visits Finland on Monday

President Lennart Meri will together with the Presidents of Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Finland participate in the meeting ''Ten years of freedom in Europe'' in Jyväskylä on Monday, November 8. The meeting celebrates the passing of ten years from the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Martti Ahtisaari, President of the Republic of Finland, will host a dinner in honour of President Lennart Meri, President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, President Valdas Adamkus and President Aleksander Kwasniewski. The Presidents will make presentations at the Jyväskylä University, where President Meri will speak of the importance of the EU decision to invite also Latvia and Lithuania to the further enlargement negotiations. As President Meri said, the situation in Chechnya will also certainly be discussed in the meeting, because this situation calls for political solutions, as military solutions always have only temporary nature.

The President will return to Tallinn late on Monday night.
