President Lennart Meri sent his regards to the Baltic German Society of Youth and Students (Deutschbaltischer Jugend- und Studentenring), which celebrated its 50th anniversary on 5-7 November in Darmstadt, Germany.

The organisation has for decades joined the resettled Baltic Germans from Estonia and Latvia and their descendants, of whom the older generation was still born in their old home country. This is one of the oldest organisations joining the Baltic Germans, which was established already in the new home country, Germany. On the anniversary celebration, the President of the Republic's Counsellor Toomas Kiho held a speech on behalf of Estonia, Latvia was represented by the Ambassador Andris Teikmanis.
