President of the Republic is in Jyväskylä, participating in the events of the tenth anniversary of the end of the Cold War

President Lennart Meri today travelled to Jyväskylä, where the tenth anniversary of the end of the Cold War is celebrated on the initiative of the Jyväskylä University, and Presidents of five Baltic Sea states participate. In the afternoon, President Lennart Meri will hold a speech ''Ten Years of Freedom in Europe'' at the Jyväskylä University, and also speak on the dinner hosted by the Mayor of Jyväskylä at the Jyväskylä Town Hall.

On the working dinner hosted by the Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari at noon today, President Lennart Meri, the Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, the Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and the Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski discussed the matters concerning the development and enlargement of the European Union, as well as the security policies of the European Union. The five Presidents also discussed the events in Chechnya.

The Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari spoke of the Finnish experience of the EU membership and presidency.

The President's working visit to Finland is going to end late this evening.
