President Lennart Meri had a meeting with the members of the Swiss parliament this afternoon in Kadriorg. On the meeting, the situation in North Caucasia was the main theme of discussion. President Meri spoke of his decision not to participate in the OSCE summit in Istanbul, and of the Turkish President Süleyman Demirel's, confirmation that the situation in Chechnya would also be discussed on the summit.

The Swiss MPs René Rhinow, Hansrudolf Hoffmann, Hanspeter Seiler ja Angeline Frankhauser also expressed their concern with the events of Chechnya. As they said, it is the duty of small states to draw attention to such problems actively.
