The President of the Republic of Lithuania Comes to a State Visit

On President Lennart Meri's invitation, the Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and Mrs. Alma Adamkiene will come to a state visit to Estonia on 4-5 October.

The official welcoming ceremony will take place at 10.00 AM on Monday, October 4, in front of the Kadriorg Palace, and be followed by the Presidents' tete-a-tete meeting and exchanging of presents. President Meri will confer to the Lithuanian President the Grand Cross of St Mary's Land with Collar; Estonia's official present to the Lithuanian President is Helen Kauksi's tapestry ''The Flow''.

At 11.00 on Monday, the Lithuanian President will lay a wreath to the monument of the schoolchildren and teachers who fought in the War of Liberty at the Tallinn School of Sciences. Afterwards, the Lithuanian President will meet Chairman of the Riigikogu Toomas Savi. Prime Minister Mart Laar will host a dinner in honour of the Lithuanian President.

The Presidents will give a joint press conference on Monday at 14.35 in the press centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At 15.00, the Lithuanian President will open an Estonian-Lithuanian business seminar at the Centre of Commerce and Industry on Toompea. Mrs. Alma Adamkiene and Mrs. Helle Meri will visit St. Catherine's Guild and the SOS-Kinderdorf in Keila.

The Lithuanian presidential couple will have a brief tour of Old Town and see Toompea, the Dome Cathedral and the Niguliste Church, as well as the Tallinn Town Hall. The Lithuanian presidential couple will also visit the Lithuanian Embassy in Tallinn, and meet members of the Estonian Lithuanian community in the Old Town Music House. On Monday evening, President Meri and Mrs. Helle Meri will host a dinner in the House of Blackheads in honour of President Adamkus and Mrs. Alma Adamkiene.

On the second day of the state visit, the Estonian President will take his Lithuanian guests to see the Tõruvere radar station and the Alatskivi command station of the border guard. The Lithuanian presidential couple will also visit Tartu and see the Tartu Town Hall, Tartu University and the History Museum of the University, as well as the Baltic Defence College.

The state visit will end on Tuesday evening.
