President of the Republic accepted the credentials of the Ukrainian Ambassador

The Ukrainian Ambassador Mikola Makarevich on the ceremony of presenting his credentials to the President of the RepublicPresident of the Republic accepted the credentials of Mikola Makarevich, the new Ambassador of Ukraine to Estonia, in Kadriorg at noon today.

Presenting his credentials, Ambassador Makarevich acknowledged the good work of his predecessor, the first Ukrainian Ambassador to Estonia Yuri Olenenko, during whose time in office a solid basis was created for the relations between the two countries. The new Ambassador considers his objective to be ''the further intensifying of relations between Estonia and Ukraine''.

President Meri said that the relations between Ukraine and Estonia do indeed have a solid basis – the 38 bilateral agreements and valid free trade regime guarantee the fast development of mutual relations. In his conversation with the Ambassador, the President expressed his satisfaction with the active Ukrainian community in Estonia, and mentioned that the Estonian Radio also transmits in the Ukrainian language.

President Meri and the Ambassador discussed the situation in Ukraine prior to the presidential elections, matters related to the return of the Crimean Tartars and the situation in Caucasia.

President of the Republic also handed a bouquet of flowers to Ambassador Makarevich on the occasion of his birthday.
