President of the Republic Participated in the Luncheon Hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Stuttgart

On Monday, the American Chamber of Commerce in Stuttgart hosted a luncheon in honour of the President of the Republic of Estonia. On the luncheon, President Lennart Meri held a speech on the theme “The Evolution of the Baltic Sea Region and its Conclusions for Germany”. In his speech, President Meri gave an outline of the development of the Estonian economy and especially the details of the legal and state regulation of economy. President Meri pointed out that the Baltic Sea is becoming the first internal sea of the European Union, and admitted that the Finnish and Swedish investors have left their German colleagues behind.

Professor Hans Thümmel, Vice-President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany and Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Stuttgart, as well as the Consul General of the United States of America Hugh G. Hamilton Jr, the Consul General of France in Stuttgart Hugues Goisbault, and the representatives of the spheres of industry, business, service and media spheres of Stuttgart participated on the luncheon.

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic paid a visit to the Robert Bosch Foundation after an interval of six years; the Foundation has supported several scientific and cultural projects in Estonia. The President of the Republic will be back in Tallinn on Monday evening.
