President of the Republic received the Ambassador of Bulgaria

Aleksander Jordanov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria, on the ceremony of presenting his credentials to the President of the RepublicPresident Lennart Meri received Aleksander Jordanov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Estonia, who came to present his credentials, this morning in Kadriorg.

Presenting his credentials, Aleksander Jordanov, who is Bulgaria's first Ambassador to Estonia, said that the two states have been working to attain the same goals – the accession to the EU and NATO, but in the future, they could work more closely together. The Bulgarian Ambassador said that the economic reforms of Bulgaria have been efficient, and that Bulgaria wishes to promote relations with Estonia. The Ambassador emphasised the need for a free trade agreement, double taxation avoidance agreement and investment protection agreement.

President Meri emphasised that the agreements would be a basis for mutual visits and a solid foundation to the development of our relations.


The President of the Republic expressed his pleasure that Estonia and Bulgaria have now exchanged Ambassadors. Estonia and Bulgaria are situated in the same North-South axis there are many similarities in their recent past.
