President of the Republic opened a Dairy Plant in Rapla
24.09.1999

President Lennart Meri and Mohammad Yaqub Haidar, the Chairman of the Board of Lacto Ltd, opened a new dairy plant in Rapla this afternoon.

At the opening ceremony, President Meri said that foreign investments to Tallinn are important, but those going outside Tallinn even more valuable. The President considers it vital that the manufacturing of Estonian agricultural products within Estonia should be supported. It is important for the manufacturers and suppliers to co-operate. The President expressed his hope that the efforts of the Estonian politicians to create a stable environment for agricultural production will start to bear more bounteous fruit. The President’s address at the opening ceremony is available on the President’s homepage www.president.ee.

The President looked round in the new dairy and said in his conversation with Yaqub Haidar and the dairy’s managing director Toomas Aguraiuja that Lacto should start the production of coffee cream in small packages, so that Estonian village inns need not serve coffee with cream produced and packaged abroad, thousands of kilometres from Estonia.
