President of the Republic Received the Ambassador of Hungary
30.09.1999

The Ambassador of Hungary Béla Javorszky on the ceremony of presenting his credentials to the President of the RepublicPresident Lennart Meri received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Hungary to Estonia, who came to present his credentials, in Kadriorg today. Ambassador Javorszky forwarded the cordial greetings of the Hungarian President Arpad Gönzc to President Meri.
Béla Javorszky, who also represented Hungary as an Ambassador to Estonia in the years 1991 - 1994, said in his speech held in the Estonian language that being kindred nations, Estonia and Hungary have good premises for friendly relations; and that as a sovereign country and a fresh NATO member, Hungary understands and supports Estonia's aspirations in this sphere. It is Hungary's objective that we could, in the spirit of the principle of undivided security, as jointly as possible contribute to the reinforcement of the major European associations.

As the Hungarian Ambassador said, the spiritual Finno-Ugric home, or to put it more modernly, the Finno-Ugric room in our common European home certainly exists.

Soon, the Institute of Hungarian Culture is going to be opened in Tallinn. Ambassador Javorszky also informed that the Hungarian Embassy in Tallinn would soon move into their Kadriorg building.

In 1997, the President of the Republic conferred the II Class Order of the Cross of St Mary's Land to Béla Javorszky, the friend of Estonia.
