President of the Republic travelled to Finland

President Meri left for a working visit to Finland this morning. The President will today visit the Finnish Civil Engineering Fair in Lappeenranta and discuss the possibilities to draft a housing programme that will fit the budget of young Estonian families who wish to build a new home. The President is accompanied by Vello Asi, Professor of Architecture, and economic adviser of the Office of the President of the Republic, Erik Somelar, both of whom are members of the Young Families Committee of Estonia.

President of the Republic plans to meet politicians, public figures and prominent figures in cultural activities in Finland. The President will attend the meeting of the Home Neighbourhood Union of Finland in Suomussalmi on August 6 – 8. The Union has invited President Meri to become its honorary member. The participants in the meeting will see President Meri's documentary ''The Water Bird People'' on August 6, and on August 8 there will be a ceremony to welcome the new honorary members. President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari will also visit the Neighbourhood Union days.

President Meri will return to Estonia on Tuesday, August 10.
