President of the Republic has Invited the President of Poland to a State Visit in Estonia

On President Lennart Meri’s invitation, the President of the Republic of Poland Aleksander Kwaśniewski and Mrs. Jolanta Kwaśniewska will pay a state visit to Estonia on August 23 – 25.

The presidential couple of Poland will arrive in Tallinn in the afternoon of August 23, and President Meri has asked the Polish guests to take part in the service celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Baltic Chain at St. Charles’ Church.

On Tuesday, the Polish President’s programme includes the tete-a-tete meeting of the Presidents as well as the negotiations of the two delegations. President Kwaśniewski will meet the Chairman of the Riigikogu Toomas Savi and Peeter Lepp, the Mayor of Tallinn. Later, the Polish President will open the Polish-Estonian business seminar in the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Polish President will lay a wreath to the memorial of schoolchildren and students killed in the War of Liberty, and also to the memorial plaque of the submarine Orzel near the Fat Margaret Tower.

At the Concordia University, the Polish President will deliver a lecture, and thereafter the programme includes a visit to the Polish Society, where President Kwaśniewski will open the new premises of this national society. The Polish President and the Poles residing in Estonia will meet in the Tallinn Town Hall.

In the evening, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Helle Meri will host a festive dinner in honour of the Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski and Mrs. Jolanta Kwaśniewska at the House of Blackheads in Tallinn.

On the third day of the State Visit, President Kwaśniewski will visit General Laidoner’s Museum in Viimsi and travel on to Pärnu. The Polish guests will follow maritime rescue manoeuvres from the border guard vessel Valvas and see the video presentation of the border surveillance system of eastern Estonia. Thereafter, Rear Admiral Tarmo Kõuts, the Director General of the Border Guard, will host a lunch in honour of the guests.

The President of the Republic of Poland and Mrs. Jolanta Kwaśniewska will leave Estonia in the evening of Wednesday, August 25, by a special flight from the Pärnu airport.
