President Lennart Meri had a meeting with Prime Minister Mart Laar and the Minister of Defence Jüri Luik this afternoon in Kadriorg.

The Minister of Defence gave the President of the Republic a survey of the report and the conclusions of the commission formed to analyse the personnel policy and internal control in the defence forces. President Meri supported the Government’s decision to liquidate the SOG (the special operations group). The proposals for amending the legislation on national defence contained in the report were also discussed. The Minister of Defence confirmed that he would submit the necessary draft amendments to the Government for approval.
