President of the Republic received a letter from the NATO Supreme Allied Commander

President Lennart Meri received a letter from the NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Wesley K. Clark, who thanked the Estonian President and all the people of Estonia for their support. In his letter to General Clark from April 10, 1999, President Meri wrote of Estonian Government’s decision to send humanitarian aid to Kosovo.

"We share your personal concern and views regarding the return of all Kosovars to their homes once the conditions of secure resettlement can be created,” General Clark wrote, also confirming that the relief efforts for the Kosovo Albanian refugees is a major concern not only to NATO, but to the entire world.

The Supreme Allied Commander wrote that NATO is currently co-ordinating both the demands and offers of assistance with the United Nations High Commission of Refugees. Estonia’s contributions of humanitarian aid and shelter are highly appreciated, General Clark wrote.
