President of the Republic of Estonia Received Representatives of Hansabank

Today evening in Kadriorg, President Lennart Meri met with the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Hansabank Anders Sahlen and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hansabank Indrek Neivelt.

The representatives of Hansabank handed the participation fee of the Hansabank economic conference “What Are the New Possibilities of Estonia?” held on May 5, over to the head of state. The fee totalled 350,000 Kroons and was transferred to the account for cultural money of the President of the Republic. The managers of Hansabank thanked the President for what he said in his report “What Does Estonia Produce”. Indrek Neivelt said that this has forced businessmen to think more about what is produced in Estonia.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hansabank Indrek Neivelt said that placing the money on the President’s account for cultural money is a strong support to Estonian education and culture.

The President thanked Hansabank and those who participated in the conference, and said that Estonian history must be recorded until this day. According to the proposal made by the President the money will be used for completion of “The History of Estonia”, which was left unfinished in 1940.

During the meeting the President and the managers of Hansabank talked about how to provide young families with loans for building their own homes. The current situation of world economy was also discussed among other things.
