Today, while being on the state visit to Greece, President Lennart Meri sent a letter to the newly elected President of Germany Johannes Rau, where he congratulated him on being elected the head of state and also on the birthday of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The President of Estonia confirmed the need to tighten the relations between the two states and invited the new President of Germany to visit Estonia.

The congratulations of the President of the Republic of Estonia were forwarded to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Athens.
