President of the Republic Participates on the NATO Summit

President Lennart Meri will depart for a week’s visit to the United States of America on Wednesday, April 22. President Meri will participate in the NATO summit dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the alliance and have a meeting with the U.S. State Secretary Madeleine Albright. The President will be accompanied by the Foreign Affairs Minister Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Defence Minister Jüri Luik and Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Johannes Kert.

President Meri will give a presentation on the summit of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council and take part of the luncheon hosted by the U.S. President Bill Clinton for the Heads of State of the Partner States.

On April 22 and 23 in New York, the President will take part of the dinner hosted by the East-West Institute in honour of Helmut Kohl, the former President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and participate in the investments conference "Post Crisis Emerging Markets: Investments Opportunities in Europe and Asia", also organised by the East-West Institute, where the President will speak of investment opportunities in Estonia.

On April 26, President Meri will visit the State of Maryland and have a look at the Annapolis Maritime Academy where also Estonian cadets are trained. President Meri will be received by Kathleen Townsend Kennedy, Vice Governor of Maryland, who will host a dinner in honour of the Estonian Head of State.

President Lennart Meri will be back in Tallinn on Wednesday, April 28.
