President of the Republic sent a letter of congratulation from Washington to the “Akadeemia” monthly on the occasion of the journal’s 10th anniversary. The President emphasised that the publication of the first issue of “Akadeemia” in April 1989 was an exceptional event in the atmosphere of the Soviet times. The democratic spirit of the new monthlye was alien to the totalitarian regime, but the Soviet power no longer had the strength to prohibit or suppress the publication.

The President wished the “Akadeemia” the strength to carry on the struggle for the enlightenment of the people.

The President’s Cultural Foundation allocated 10,000 Estonian kroons to the “Akadeemia” for rewarding the best contributors.
