|President of the Republic Received the Ambassador of India
President Lennart Meri received Chikka Rachappa Balachandra, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Estonia, who came to present his credentials, in Kadriorg today.
The Ambassador forwarded the greetings of the Indian President Kicheril Raman Narayanan. As the Ambassador said, the Estonian Presidents State Visit to India at the beginning of the year signified the accelerating development of the relations between the two countries. President Meri remarked that Estonia and India have their similarities despite the geographical distance between them, and that the Cupertino is making progress.
On the meeting, the possibilities for economic co-operation and the forthcoming Parliament elections in India were discussed in more detail. The Ambassador also inquired about the Presidents visit to the NATO Summit in United States. President Meri reiterated that Estonia has two goals, to accede to the European Union and join NATO, and that the NATO Summit yielded positive results for Estonia. The President and the Indian Ambassador also discussed the structure of the UN Security Council.
