President of the Republic Congratulated the Presidents of Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary

President Lennart Meri sent letters of congratulation from Washington to Aleksander Kwasniewski, President of the Republic of Poland, Vaclav Havel, President of the Czech Republic, and Arpad Göncz, President of the Republic of Hungary, on the occasion of their countries“ full accession to NATO.

President Meri congratulated the Presidents of three countries on the occasion of their countries“ official accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance and confirmed that the event is also important for Estonia. “This is a decisive step towards building an inclusive transatlantic security system and enhancing stability throughout a new and united Europe,” President Meri wrote. He also wrote that the accession process of the three Central European countries sets an example for Estonia.

In his letters to President Kwasniewski, President Havel and President Göncz, President Meri also wrote of the importance that Estonia attaches to bilateral relations, and expressed his conviction that the relations will continue to deepen under the new Government to be formed in the wake of the parliamentary elections held in Estonia on March 7.
