The President of the Republic offered lunch to Prime Minister Mart Laar in Kadriorg
16.05.2001

President Lennart Meri expressed his pleasure with Estonia's victory on the Eurovision singing contest. Prime Minister Laar assured the President that the Government would guarantee the organisation of next year's contest in Estonia.

President Meri and the Prime Minister also discussed the President's tour ''Estonia Remembers''; during the tour, President Meri will deliver the badge of Broken Cornflower to all the victims of the violence of alien powers in all counties of Estonia.

Prime Minister Mart Laar also presented his observations on the developments surrounding Jüri Mõis, the Mayor of Tallinn. In this connection, President Meri also reminded the Prime Minister of his Mothers' Day speech. The morals of the political leaders of Estonia have worn unbearably thin, President Meri said. The idea that some posts can be abandoned only after the holder of the post has been sentenced to prison, is the reverse side of the fantasy of the communist dictatorship about the absolute infallibility of high state officials, he added.
