President Lennart Meri gave the traditional Christmas lunch to the County Governors today. On the meeting with the County Governors, the fulfilment of the tasks of accession to the Euro-Atlantic structures facing Estonia was considered, and the institution of the County Governors was also discussed.

The President asked the County Governors' opinion on the organisation of the parades of the Defence Forces. The President posed the question whether Estonia, considering our resources and obligations, should organise two military parades a year, or should we limit ourselves to only one parade on the Victory Day, the day before Midsummer, taking place in different cities of Estonia in succession. The County Governors agreed that one military parade in a different Estonian city every year would be the right solution for Estonia.

All 14 County Governors currently in office participated in the lunch. No representative from Võrumaa was present. The Estonian President traditionally meets all the County Governors twice a year.
