President Lennart Meri received Mart Sõrg, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Estonian National Bank, and Vahur Kraft, President of the Estonian National Bank, at noon in Kadriorg today.

Leaders of the Estonian National Bank, who visited the President at his request, briefed the President on the steps taken by the Estonian National Bank to regulate the Estonian banking situation and on the decisions concerning the small banks that have experienced difficulties of late.

Leaders of the National Bank emphasised that our banking system as a whole is stable and estimated the prospects of our financial system to be positive. International investors have shown considerable interest in coming to Estonian banking market and making investments.

Those participating in the meeting expressed their hope that the new Supervisory Board of the National Bank of Estonia would be able to get down to work peacefully.
