Today, president Lennart Meri concluded his official visit to the Republic of Turkey. Before his departure from Istanbul, the President received a call from Süleyman Demirel, the President of the Republic of Turkey. Summing up the visit, the Presidents noted that Estonia and Turkey have come to a good understanding. The Estonian Head of State and President Demirel spoke of their readiness to complete the preparations for concluding all the pending agreements between the two countries. The Presidents also admitted that the economic and financial contacts between the two countries have been friendly, although not very extensive so far.

President Demirel thanked President Lennart Meri for the visit, and said that if their next meeting is not to take place earlier, they would certainly meet during the next NATO summit in Washington in April 1999.
