The President of the Republic received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland
24.07.2001

The President of the Republic had a meeting with Wladyslaw Bartoszewski, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, at Neeme today and offered him lunch. Bilateral relations between Estonia and Poland, as well as relations to neighbours and international situation on a broader scale were discussed at the meeting. As EU candidate countries, Estonia and Poland have much in common as concerns visions of foreign policy. Estonia is especially interested in Poland's experience as a recent NATO member. Foreign Minister Bartoszewski assured also that Poland has always and on all levels supported Estonia's accession to NATO.

The Republic of Estonia and the Republic of Poland have a long tradition of close political, economic, and cultural relations dating back to the time after World War I. As politicians, humanitarians, and men of the same generation, President Meri and the Foreign Minister of Poland saw many points of support in that long history.
