Today President Lennart Meri received Vahur Kraft, President of the National Bank of Estonia. Opinions on the financial crisis in the Russian Federation, the behaviour of the foreign currency markets and international economic relations were exchanged.

The Head of State and the Presient of the National Bank expressed their hope that Russia would be able to resist the temptation to apply restrictive measures for the solution of the current crisis, for those would only lead to further isolation of Russia's economy from the economy of the world.

The same subjects, and also the need to intensify Estonia's accession process to the European Union and to inform the publicity constantly of Estonia's future position in the EU, were discussed on the evening meeting between the President and Prime Minister Mart Siimann.
