President Lennart Meri and Mrs. Helle Meri received the most successful college graduates in Kadriorg today.
In his welcoming speech President Meri reminded the graduates of his own graduation ceremony in 1948, when the former headmaster wished that the blue sky of Estonia were always over their heads, that they had the strength to plough the black earth of Estonia and in their hearts there could always feel the white colour of hope. He wished, that fifty years from now, looking back to their memories, today's graduates would hear their teacher's voice whose words are still alive fifty years later.
President reminded nearly two hundred young people, who had graduated successfully this year, of Anton Hansen Tammsaare and his words on love and work. President asked the graduates to keep love and work hand in hand, as it is impossible to separate the two.
The President reminded this generation, for whom all the doors stand open, that one day Estonia, the Estonian state, will be their own life, their fate, their love, their families and children. ''Now everything depends only on your ability to sow the seeds you gathered at school – on the right day and in the right weather, so that they will bear your own fruit, beautiful golden fruit, if only you will sow them with diligence and love, and love and diligence.''
