President of the Republic had a meeting with Henry Owen

President Lennart Meri received Henry Owen, an influential economist and politician from the United States and a counsellor to a major investment bank Salomon Smith Brothers, in Kadriorg today.
Henry Owen considered the present status of the US economy to be excellent; he also acknowledged the economic development of Estonia and Estonia's success in accession to the European Union.
Henry Owen assured that the USA has a considerable interest to invest in Estonia. Henry Owen was especially interested in the possibilities of Estonia as a transit country for oil and natural gas, and enquired more specifically about the Estonian port facilities.
President Meri told Mr. Owen about Estonia's geological and climatic advantages relevant to port construction on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. The President said that in Estonia there is space for the implementation of several major port projects, and Mr. Owen was especially interested in the port construction plans for the Paldiski Bay.
Mr. Owen assured the President that he hoped to find a partner in Estonia, with whom he could co-operate in the construction of a transit port.
