Estonian President received the Duke of York

President Lennart Meri received His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, in Kadriorg today. Today at noon the honourable guest was welcomed by President Lennart Meri and Mrs. Helle Meri in front of the President's Office.
On the tźte-į-tźte meeting between the Estonian head of state and the representative of the Royal House of Britain the historically good relations between the two countries were discussed. Prince Andrew expressed his keen interest for the life in Estonia and was also interested in social affairs, the situation of ethnic minorities in Estonia and the development of the Estonian democracy during the recent years.
President Lennart Meri informed his guest about the progress of Estonia and on the current situation concerning ethnic minorities and the historic background of this situation, including the events of 1940 in Estonia. The President informed His Royal Highness about the history of the city of Narva and about the procedures of parliament election in Estonia.
The President took the Duke of York for a walk in the Kadriorg Park and demonstrated the art collection of the President's Office. President Meri hosted a lunch where several other people, representatives of different spheres of life, whose contributions to the development of relations between Estonia and Great Britain have been considerable, also participated.
