President Lennart Meri and Mrs. Helle Meri have been invited to pay a state visit to the Republic of Italy by the President of Italy Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. The visit will take place from March 25 to 29 and will include the President's meeting with the leader of the Italian state, also with Prime Minister Romano Prodi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lamberto Dini and others.

The leader of the Estonian state will be accompanied by Secretary of the State Uno Veering, Minister of Foreign Affairs Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Minister of Economy Jaak Leiman, Minister of Defence Andrus Öövel, Governor of Viljandi County Helir-Valdur Seeder and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the President of the Republic.

The President will also be accompanied by the delegation of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the President will open the Estonian business seminar.

The duration of the visit of President Meri, Mrs. Helle Meri and the Estonian delegation will be five days and they will visit Rome, Milan and Turin. The leader of the Estonian state will open the Estonian Consulate in Turin.
