President of the Republic of Estonia Participated in the Estonian Investment Seminar in London
26.02.1998

President Lennart Meri participated in the Estonian Enterprising and Investment Seminar, which was held today in the London Chamber of Commerce.

The vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce, Colin Parsons, opened the seminar with an expression of appreciation of the dramatic and fast development of the Estonian economy. Introducing the President of Estonia, Lord Howell said that every time Estonia was discussed in Great Britain, all speakers were certain that the future looked bright for Estonia. He said that the relations between Estonia and Great Britain had been very active.

President Meri, who spoke to more than a hundred entrepreneurs from London and outside London, stressed that Estonia is oriented to market economy and the economic life of Estonia is stable and dynamic at the same time. The President also told the participants of the seminar that last year's stock market crash has not had a permanent negative effect of the economy of Estonia.

Lord Howell pointed out that if the existing ports and railway junctions of Estonia were modernised, if the development of Russia continued successfully and the economy of Asia restored its strength, Estonia would have even more opportunities.
