Visit of the President of the Republic to Finland 08.08.2001Tomorrow, on 9 August, President Lennart Meri will travel to Finland on an official visit, in order to participate at the events organised for the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Estonia. On Monday, 13 August, the President of the Republic will give a presentation at the seminar ''Ten Years from the Regaining of Independence in Estonia'' in the assembly hall of the Helsinki University. President Lennart Meri has been invited to be the main presenter at the seminar organised by the Tuglas Society and the subject of his presentation is ''Independence of Estonia'', other presenters at the seminar include Mikko Viitasalo, Rein Ruutsoo and Seppo Zetterberg.
On Monday, a memorial plaque will be opened in the presence of President Lennart Meri on the building in which the Tuglas Society is operating in Mariankatu in the centre of Helsinki, for the commemoration of the events that took place ten years ago in connection with the regaining of independence by the Republic of Estonia.
President Meri plans to meet several politicians, public and cultural figures in Finland, among others the representatives of the Paasikivi Society. The President will return home on 13 August.
