Tonight, the President of the Republic hosted a dinner for those who were active in the events ten years ago that completed the struggle for the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Estonia. President Meri had invited Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, the former Foreign Minister of Denmark, Jon Baldvin Hannibalsson, the former Foreign Minister of Iceland, academician Aleksander Yakovlev, Fyodor Shelov-Kovedyayev, the former Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, as well as Dainis Ivans and Janis Dinevics, leaders of the Latvian popular front at the time. From Estonia, the leaders of the Citizens’ Committees and the Supreme Council were present.

The President also delivered a speech to the dinner guests. Also Edgar Savisaar, Uffe Ellemann-Jensen and Enn Tarto held speeches at the table.
