The President of the Republic will hand over the Ernst Jaakson Memorial Scholarship

President Lennart Meri hands over Ernst Jaaksoni Memorial Scholarship to Andres KullaPresident Lennart Meri, Patron of the Tartu Univeristy Foundation, will tomorrow hand over the first Ernst Jaakson Scholarship of 175,000 kroons to Andres Kulla, who is studying for his doctor's decree at the medical department of Tartu University and applied for the scholarship wishing to continue his studies of pathological anatomy at the univerisities of Mainz and Bergen.

Andres Kulla made an important contribution to medical science, being the first to introduce neuropathological research methods in the morphological examiantion of nervous diseases in Estonia, the application of immunohistochemical method to the routine diagnostical pathology, and the application of double immunity histochemical method in morphological research. Andres Kulla’s research work could continue with the utilisation of new modern experimental models at the Institute of Pathological Anatomy of the Tartu University, and the continuation of his research work at the Biomedical Centre of the Tartu University in co-operation with foreign partners from the Bergen University and Mainz University.

The aim of the Ernst Rudolf Jaakson Memorial Foundation is to support the Estonian candidates of doctor’s degree, researchers and professors studying or conducting research abroad for their doctor’s degree in order to grow competent successors to the researchers of Tartu University.
