President Meri had a meeting with Prime Minister Mart Laar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Toomas Hendrik Ilves, the Minister of Defence Jüri Luik and the Commander of the Defence Forces Rear Admiral Tarmo Kõuts in Kadriorg today in order to discuss security issues after yesterday’s terrorist attacks to the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.

The participants of the meeting reiterated that yesterday’s attacks were a military assault against the United States of America and the entire democratic world in a new and very callous terrorist way. This obliges the democratic powers to join together for the protection of peace, security and human rights. The Republic of Estonia stands firmly with the United States of America and all the countries that hold dear the protection of the common values of our civilisation against international terrorism, the new threat of the 21st century.
