President of the Republic to the Participants of the Sixth Jamboree Of the Estonian Scouts and Guides on July 19, 1998
19.07.1998

Dear Estonian Boy Scouts!
Dear Estonian Guides!

I wish you nice camping days at Tagametsa in Järvamaa. You have chosen a beautiful time, a beautiful site and a beautiful name for your Sixth Jamboree. The "Forest Book 1998" will help you to read the great book of Estonian nature. This book has been read by hundreds of generations before you and will be read by as many generations to come. The pages of the "Forest Book" tell us first and foremost about the nature of our home country - the nature that has protected and nurtured the Estonians and sheltered them at times of danger. The "Forest Book" will tell you about the constancy of nature, the heat of campfires, and above all, the main principle of camping: by joint action, even the greatest hardships will be overcome.

My words of welcome will be conveyed to you by the artist Ants Viidalepp, a man who was born to be a scout, with whom we have been camping in high mountains, in primeval forests and on the Estonian islands. Bring him to your midst on this opening day, for he knows all the secrets and skills of camp-life.

You will compete in knowledge of camping skills. You will also compete in erecting a memorial for the Forest Brothers resistance fighters. You will compete in learning the first commandment of scouts and guides: each for all, all for each!

Now listen carefully. Ten winners of the camping competition and two journalists will receive the following prize from the Republic of Estonia: on Monday, July 27, at 11 AM, the mine vessel "Olev" of the Estonian Navy will be waiting for you in the Mine Harbour and take you to a beautiful voyage around Naissaar. In this prize, I hope you will recognize the beauty of the Estonian nature and our ability to defend this beauty when necessary.

Each for all, all for each!

Your President

Lennart Meri
