President of the Republic’s Academic Council will convene for a meeting at 5:00 PM on September 21 in Rakvere. This time, the meeting will concentrate on the subject of the Estonian language in information society.

Professor Haldur Õim from Tartu University will concentrate on the role, means, and possibilities of language technology, and researcher Indrek Hein form the Estonian Language Institute will try to answer the question to what extent the text and software available in the Internet can be used for learning the Estonian language, for finding answers to specific questions, for language studies and for purely practical solutions; and Meelis Mihkla, also from the Estonian Language Institute, will speak about oral speech and written text; also Mare Kõiva from the Estonian Literary Museum will make a presentation.

The presentations will be followed by a discussion.

The meeting will start at 5:00 PM on September 21 in Rakvere, in the conference hall of the Wesenbergh Hotel, Tallinn Road 25. The Academic Council requests journalists kindly to come and listen to the presentations and discussion.
